WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), Martin Heinrich (D-NM), and colleagues applauded the passage of their resolution to designate June 16, 2023, as National Service and Conservation Corps Day. Every year, AmeriCorps enrolls more than 200,000 individuals who currently serve in 40,000 communities across America, totaling more than one million alumni since the program’s founding in 1994.
“National service organizations create opportunity for Americans of different experiences and backgrounds to gain work experience and give back to their communities,” said Dr. Cassidy. “On National Service and Conservation Corps Day, we recognize and celebrate these organizations that help make our communities stronger, safer, and healthier for all.”
“I served as an AmeriCorps member for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service early in my career. It reinforced the importance of working in service to our nation and the people and places that make our nation so special,” said Senator Heinrich. “As Vice Chair of the National Service Congressional Caucus, I am proud to work with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to make sure each new generation of Americans has their own opportunities to serve and leave their mark.”
Cassidy and Heinrich were joined by U.S. Senators Chris Coons (D-DE), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), and John Hickenlooper (D-CO) in cosponsoring this resolution.
