The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) reports progress in the $101.7 million Nelson Road Extension and Bridge Project in Calcasieu Parish. Currently, the project is 30 percent complete. Johnson Brothers Construction, the project's contractor, is completing structure work below the bridge decks on the south side of Contraband Bayou, including piles, footings, columns, and pile caps. Additionally, drainage work is ongoing.

Next week, crews will begin driving piles north of Contraband Bayou. The temporary working platform on the north side is complete, and preparation for pier protection is underway.

"The new bridge will connect the heavily-traveled Nelson Road to West Sallier Street," a spokesperson noted.

The completion of the project is expected by early 2027, depending on weather conditions.
