The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced progress on the LA 1 (Youree Drive) asphalt overlay project in Shreveport, Caddo Parish. The construction has moved into a new phase with the commencement of the milling process, which involves removing old asphalt layers to prepare for new asphalt application.

According to DOTD, "Other repairs have already been completed, such as the full-depth patching which involves removing pre-determined sections of roadway down to the base and replacing with new material." This step is crucial as it strengthens the roadway and extends its service life.

The project, valued at $3.8 million, spans from Southfield Road to Stoner Avenue and covers approximately three miles of this commercial and residential corridor. In addition to the asphalt overlay, sidewalk repairs and drainage improvements are also being undertaken.

Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures along the route as work progresses. DOTD advises drivers to "please drive slowly and carefully through the construction zone."

Completion is expected by late June 2025, although weather conditions may affect this timeline. DOTD reminds drivers: "Please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment."

For more information, motorists can call 511 or visit www.511la.org. Additional updates are available on DOTD's website or social media pages.
