A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Louisiana Secretary of State on February 5, 2025, by us at Pelican State News. The request pertains to the upcoming spring elections and seeks comprehensive information about all candidates running for office.
The details requested under the Louisiana Public Records Act § 44:1 et seq., include not only the full names of the candidates but also the offices they are vying for and their respective jurisdictions. Furthermore, we have asked for information about each candidate's party affiliation.
To facilitate our reporting and ensure transparency in our coverage, we have also requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, access to public records is essential for us at Pelican State News. It allows us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
