The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced the commencement of a state-funded construction project on La. 31, spanning from La. 182 in Iberia Parish to just south of La. 92-1 in St. Martin Parish. The work is set to begin on Monday, March 17.
This $8.4 million initiative, fully funded by state resources, will involve several key activities including milling asphalt pavement, pavement patching, applying an asphalt concrete overlay, installing guardrails, striping roads, and other related tasks.
Construction is scheduled to occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., contingent upon favorable weather conditions. During this period, motorists should anticipate alternating lane closures. While the road will remain open to regular traffic with a lane restriction for oversized loads set at a maximum width of 12 feet, emergency vehicles will still have access but might experience some delays.
The completion of this project is anticipated by April 2026.
DOTD emphasizes the importance of safety during the construction period and advises drivers to exercise caution when navigating through the work zone and remain vigilant for workers and equipment present on-site.
