The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced upcoming weekend closures on Interstate 49 northbound and the right lane of Interstate 10 eastbound in Lafayette Parish. These closures are part of the I-10 emergency girder repair project.

On Saturday, March 8, from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., Interstate 49 northbound at its intersection with I-10 will be closed to all traffic, pending weather conditions. This closure is required for crews to remove formwork and clean the roadway of the I-10 eastbound overpass. Emergency vehicles will not have access to this section of I-49 northbound.

Motorists traveling on I-49 northbound should take Exit 1A (Baton Rouge), continue eastbound on I-10 to Exit 104 (Louisiana Avenue), turn left on Louisiana Avenue, then take I-10 westbound to Exit 103B (I-49/US 167 - Opelousas).

On Sunday, March 9, from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., Interstate 10 eastbound between the University Avenue Interchange and through the I-49 Interchange will be reduced to one lane, weather permitting. Emergency vehicles will have access to the inside lane of this area. This closure is necessary for crews to remove concrete barriers from the outside lane of I-10.

During this time, several ramp closures will remain in place: the Interstate 10 eastbound overpass auxiliary lane (deceleration/acceleration lane), the I-49 northbound exit ramp from I-10 (Exit 103B), and Exit 1A to access I-10 eastbound.

The project is expected to be completed in March 2025, subject to weather conditions. The emergency contractors for this project are Lafayette-based Huval & Associates, Inc. for design and C.E.C., Inc. for construction.
