The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced the commencement of a preservation project on La. 87 in Iberia Parish, scheduled to begin on March 10, 2025. The project will cover a 0.64-mile section from La. 3182 to a point 0.65 miles southeast of La. 3182, with an estimated cost of $951,269.79.

The scope of work includes the installation of new drainage structures, milling asphalt concrete, pavement patching, asphalt concrete overlay, and other related tasks. Construction activities are planned for weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., weather permitting.

During the construction period, both road closures and alternating lane closures are anticipated. While road closures are in effect, La. 87 will be accessible only to local traffic with detours via La. 671, La. 182, and La. 3182 clearly marked for other vehicles. Emergency services will not have full access during these times.

For lane closures when the road is open to regular traffic, there will be a restriction allowing only vehicles up to a maximum width of twelve feet through the work zone; emergency vehicles may face delays but will have access.

The project is expected to reach completion by May 2025.

DOTD advises motorists to exercise caution while driving through construction zones and remain vigilant for workers and equipment present on-site.

To assist travelers with updates on local projects or road conditions during this period, DOTD offers several resources:

- MyDOTD: This service provides updates on local projects and road activity via www.dotd.la.gov.

- The "511 Traveler Information" system: Accessible at www.511la.org or by dialing '511', this service offers information about current road conditions and closures specific to routes or regions in question; out-of-state travelers can use it by calling toll-free at "1-888-ROAD-511".
