The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced upcoming closures on Interstate 49 northbound and the right lane of Interstate 10 eastbound in Lafayette Parish. These closures are part of ongoing repairs to the I-10 eastbound overpass.

Interstate 49 northbound, also known as Evangeline Thruway, will be closed from Friday, February 14 at 9:00 p.m. until Saturday, February 15 at 5:00 a.m., weather permitting. Emergency vehicles will not have access during this period.

A detour is available for motorists traveling on I-49 northbound. Drivers should take Exit 1A towards Baton Rouge, continue eastbound on I-10 to Exit 104 at Louisiana Avenue, turn left onto Louisiana Avenue, then proceed westbound on I-10 to Exit 103B for I-49/US 167 towards Opelousas.

Additionally, beginning Friday, February 14 at 9:00 p.m., Interstate 10 eastbound will be reduced to one lane between the University Avenue Interchange and through the I-49 Interchange until Sunday, February 16 at 5:00 a.m., weather permitting. Emergency vehicles will still have access to the inside lane in this area.

These measures are necessary for crews to pour concrete for the bridge deck of the I-10 eastbound overpass. During this time, several ramp closures will remain in place including the auxiliary lane of the I-10 eastbound overpass and certain exit ramps such as Exit 103B from I-10 and Exit 1A to access I-10 eastbound.

The project is expected to be completed by March 2025 if weather conditions allow. The emergency contractors handling this project are Huval & Associates, Inc. for design and C.E.C., Inc. for construction.

DOTD offers resources like MyDOTD and the Traveler Information service (511) for motorists seeking updates on local projects and road conditions. DOTD urges drivers to exercise caution around work zones.
