The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced a significant change in traffic patterns on I-12 westbound, effective from 5 a.m. on Saturday, February 22. This adjustment is part of the ongoing College Drive Flyover Project, moving the project closer to completion.
The new configuration will see I-12 westbound lanes shifting left before merging with I-10 westbound, marking a permanent change for drivers who are used to merging from the right side. An illustration of this new alignment is available for reference.
In addition to this shift, the I-12 westbound on-ramp at Essen Lane will be temporarily closed for approximately six to eight weeks starting February 22. During this period, the right lane approaching Essen will serve as an "exit only" lane for the I-10 eastbound exit ramp. The other two lanes will continue toward the I-10/I-12 merge.
Drivers are advised to detour via Essen Lane south to access the I-10 westbound on-ramp during this closure. These changes are necessary for completing new exit ramps at College Drive. Once finished, dedicated right lane exits to College Drive will be available for both I-10 and I-12 westbound traffic.
DOTD reminds motorists to exercise caution and patience while adjusting to these new traffic patterns and adhere strictly to posted speed limits and construction signage in work zones.
