The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced the commencement of a $12.6 million rehabilitation project on La. 106, also known as St. Landry Highway, from U.S. 167 to the Avoyelles Parish line in Evangeline Parish. Construction is set to begin on February 18, 2025.

This project covers an 8.26-mile stretch and includes milling asphaltic concrete, roadway reinforcing mesh, subgrade treatment, in-place base rehabilitation, patching, asphalt overlay, drainage structure replacement, steel sheeting installation, guard rail installation, rumble strips, striping, and related work.

Work will be conducted Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting. Drivers should expect intermittent lane closures and potential delays; however, the road will remain open to regular traffic with a maximum lane restriction of 12 feet for oversized loads.

A significant aspect of this project involves a planned 60-day road closure for drainage work and steel sheet pile wall installation. DOTD plans to release additional information regarding this closure at a later date.

Emergency vehicles will have access during construction except during the scheduled road closure event which will be announced separately.

The project is expected to conclude in December 2025. DOTD urges drivers to "please drive with caution through the site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment."

To assist motorists with travel planning during this period, DOTD offers several resources:

- MyDOTD: Sign up at www.dotd.la.gov for updates on local projects and closures.

DOTD extends its appreciation for public patience during this essential infrastructure improvement.
