The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced a closure of Interstate 49 northbound at the intersection with Interstate 10 in Lafayette Parish. This is due to necessary repairs on the I-10 eastbound overpass.

Damage occurred to the exterior girder of the eastbound bridge deck in December 2024, prompting this repair work. The closure will begin on Friday, February 7, at 9:00 p.m. and last until Monday, February 10, at 5:00 a.m., weather permitting.

The project involves removing the damaged girder from the I-10 overpass using a crane and installing a new one. Once installed, fabrication of the new bridge deck will commence and continue over several weeks. Further lane and road closures related to this project will be announced as needed.

During this period, all lanes of Interstate 10 in the eastbound direction will remain open to traffic. However, certain closures include:

- The auxiliary lane (deceleration/acceleration lane) on I-10 eastbound overpass

- I-49 northbound exit ramp from I-10 (Exit 103B)

- Exit 1A for access to I-10 eastbound

Emergency vehicles will not have access to this section of I-49 northbound during the closure.

Motorists traveling on I-49 northbound are advised to take Exit 1A toward Baton Rouge, continue east on I-10 to Exit 104 (Louisiana Avenue), turn left onto Louisiana Avenue, then head west on I-10 back to Exit 103B (I-49/US167 - Opelousas).

The project is expected to be completed by March 2025, weather permitting. Emergency contractors for this work include Lafayette-based Huval & Associates Inc., handling design aspects, and C.E.C., Inc., overseeing construction.

DOTD offers resources like MyDOTD for updates on local projects and road conditions through their website www.dotd.la.gov. Additionally, travelers can obtain information via www.511la.org or by dialing "511" within Louisiana or calling "1-888-Road511" from outside the state.

The department appreciates public patience during these repairs and urges drivers to exercise caution around work areas.
