The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced progress in its litter cleanup initiative, supported by an additional $3 million from the Louisiana Legislature. The project focuses on enhancing the cleanliness and appearance of major federal highways throughout the state.
The initiative began last week in New Orleans, where crews have collected over 625 cubic yards of litter. Alongside litter removal, teams are repairing damaged fencing, replacing signage, and removing graffiti on state roadways.
Residents across Louisiana will see increased efforts to clean major interstates such as I-10, I-12, I-20, I-110, and I-610 in the coming months.
For fiscal year 2024, DOTD allocated approximately $13.6 million for litter pickup. This annual investment highlights discussions about resource allocation since funds used for litter removal could also support road improvements and transportation enhancements.
DOTD encourages residents to help keep Louisiana free of litter by disposing of waste properly and joining local cleanup efforts. More information is available at www.keeplouisianabeautiful.org.
