Louisiana Tech University was chosen as one of the three places in the state to host the Louisiana Science Teachers Association (LSTA) and Louisiana Association of Teachers of Mathematics (LATM) conference. Teachers from across the Interstate-20 area as well as faculty and staff from the College of Education and Louisiana Department of Education attended the event.
“The main focus was to get STEM teachers together again after several years of not having a face-to-face conference because of COVID and discuss issues and best practices for inquiry-based teaching in math and science,” said Christopher Campbell, coordinator of the event and UTeachTech Master Teacher.
Teachers were also able to hear from state education department employees about the statewide initiatives. More than one hundred educators participated in the three locations (New Orleans, Lake Charles and Ruston) with Tech hosting twenty teachers on January 28.
“We are thankful to Chris Campbell with UTeachTech for bringing this event to Louisiana Tech University and giving us the opportunity to host one of three sessions in the state with LATM and LSTA,” said Dr. Lindsey Vincent, Associate Dean for Research, Outreach, and Innovation for the College of Education. “Bringing together teacher leaders, university faculty, and LADOE team members to learn and work was a powerful, rich, and interactive experience.”
