The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced a significant change for drivers exiting I-10 westbound at College Drive, set to take place this Sunday. This change introduces a new four-lane configuration as part of the ongoing College Drive Flyover project.
A notable feature of this configuration is the inclusion of a free-flow lane designed to bypass the traffic signal at College Drive, providing direct access to Corporate Boulevard. This lane will be delineated with a rollover curb separating it from College Drive. Meanwhile, drivers in the right lane of northbound College Drive will still have the option to turn right onto Corporate Boulevard at the traffic signal but will not have access to the free-flow lane.
The remaining three lanes at the exit ramp will maintain their current function, culminating at the College Drive traffic signal. Vehicles in the left and middle lanes will be required to turn left towards southbound College Drive, while the right lane will turn right heading northbound.
This change will establish a permanent configuration for the College Drive exit ramp. Additional infrastructure developments are ongoing, with new exit lanes from I-10 and I-12 under construction, slated for completion by late April or early May, contingent on weather conditions. These lanes will enable I-10 westbound and I-12 westbound traffic to exit for College Drive prior to merging with I-10/I-12. Both exits will combine into a single ramp leading to the updated lane configuration.
The DOTD emphasizes the importance of safety during this transition. "DOTD appreciates your patience and we would like to remind drivers to exercise caution and drive with care through construction sites," they stated. Drivers are advised to be vigilant of work crews and their equipment and to adhere to all signage and speed limits.
