The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced that the $123 million I-20 major rehabilitation project in Bossier City is nearing its final construction phase. The old outside travel lanes of the interstate have been removed, and reconstruction efforts are underway from Hamilton Road to Industrial Drive.
This project includes significant drainage improvements and replacement of various drainage structures. Currently, the Old Minden Road and Industrial Drive interchange ramps remain closed for roadway reconstruction but are expected to reopen by late April or early May once the new lanes are completed.
Upon completion of these interchanges, work will shift to another location, with details to be provided later. The project is 74% complete and is anticipated to finish by late 2025 or early 2026, contingent on weather conditions and other factors.
Commercial motor vehicles (CMVs), such as 18-wheelers, are prohibited from traveling through the work zone due to narrow lane widths as per Louisiana Revised Statute 32:327. This restriction will be reassessed as new lanes become available. CMV drivers should use I-220 as a detour.
Travelers on I-20 are encouraged to utilize I-220 to avoid potential delays caused by construction activities.
The DOTD provides resources and updates about this project on its website. Safety remains a priority, with reminders for motorists to drive cautiously through construction zones, maintain safe distances between vehicles, and be vigilant around work crews.
Residents near the construction area should also exercise caution when driving or walking nearby. Pedestrians are advised against using interstate pathways for walking or biking.
