Kameron Lunon | McNeese State University
McNeese State University is honoring Black History Month by spotlighting students, faculty and alumni.
Kameron Lunon joined the Department of Mass Communications in 2019. He is from Arkansas where he earned a bachelor’s degree in writing and a master’s in digital filmmaking from the University of Central Arkansas. He teaches writing for the media, public speaking and video production.
Lunon’s father inspired him, but not in the usual sense. “He showed me everything I refused to be as a man and as a father,” Lunon explained. “Because of him, I made a promise to myself that I would not follow in his footsteps, and instead create my own path, leaving positive footsteps for my kids and anyone else I was given the chance to inspire.”
Lunon has advice for future black college students. “Don’t be afraid to be the spec on a whiteboard. Because those who went before us weren’t afraid to be the only one to stand for something, or in Rosa’s case, sit, so that we have the rights that we have today,” he emphasized. “Don’t be afraid of standing out, just recognize that it means you’re outstanding!”
