Amazon received $49 million in subsidies, tax breaks, and grants from Louisiana communities to build seven facilities.
Advocacy group Good Jobs First, which opposes such subsidies, found Louisiana provided the 19th-highest amount of grants and breaks among U.S. states to the nearly $1-trillion company.
Louisiana is ranked behind Wisconsin (6 projects/$54 million) and ahead of New Jersey (3 projects/$45 million), Florida (13 projects/$43 million), and Connecticut (3 projects/$38 million).
Arlington, Virginia was awarded the largest portion of the 310 taxpayer-subsidized Amazon projects.
The two largest subsidies provided in Louisiana were from the Baton Rouge government, equaling $35 million for a maximum amount in 10-year city PILOT (Cortana Mall site) and $5 million for a state infrastructure grant paid in 2022 and 2023; plus unknown amount in workforce development funds.
