NFIB outlines legislative priorities for Louisiana's 2025 session

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) in Louisiana is preparing for the upcoming legislative session, which starts on April 14, 2025. Leah Long, the NFIB State Director, has outlined key issues that the organization plans to address.

Long emphasized the challenges faced by small businesses in Louisiana, particularly due to what she describes as "frivolous lawsuits." She stated, “Louisiana’s small businesses are dealing with a host of economic challenges right now, but frivolous lawsuits are making a bad situation even worse.” According to Long, these lawsuits contribute to increased insurance and operational costs, exacerbating inflation's effects on local businesses and families.

Long further explained that unless legal reforms are enacted by the state legislature and signed into law, small businesses on Main Street will continue facing predatory lawsuits. She warned that such legal actions could potentially drive them out of business.

Additionally, NFIB's annual Small Business Day at the Capitol is scheduled for April 15. While details are still being finalized, Long mentioned that this event provides an opportunity for NFIB members and their guests to interact with elected officials and discuss pressing issues.
