Community invited to College Drive litter clean-up day

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Community members are invited to a  College Drive litter clean-up initiative taking place later this month.

The Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC) said 10 businesses on College  Drive have committed to the initiative, which takes place on Saturday,  Aug. 20.

“College Drive is one of the most highly visible, highly travelled,  and highly littered corridors in our region,” said Klein Kirby, BRAC  Quality of Place Council chairman and A. Wilbert’s Sons CEO. “Engaging  businesses in a corridor to rally pride in their space is just the first  step. To tackle a quality of place issue as big as litter, it takes the  commitment and coordinated effort of the community and leaders to  create transformative change.”

BRAC partnered with nonprofit Clean Pelican for the initiative in hopes of creating a standard operating procedure for other corridors in the Baton Rouge area.

“Clean Pelican envisions a clean and beautiful Baton Rouge free of  litter, making our city a welcoming place for businesses and families to  stay, work, and play,” said Johanna Landreneau, founder and interim  executive director of Clean Pelican. “Our business sponsored litter  clean ups and educational outreach provides a platform to shift our city  from a litter culture to a clean culture.”

On Aug. 20, businesses and volunteers will meet at Coffee Call for the 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. clean-up. To register, click here.
