Louisiana residents are set to cast their votes on four proposed state constitutional amendments in the upcoming election scheduled for March 29. These amendments cover a range of issues, including judicial discipline, tax policies, prosecution of juveniles, and the process for filling judicial vacancies.

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) has not expressed support or opposition regarding any of these amendments. However, it is important for voters to be informed about what each proposal entails.

Amendment 1 seeks to empower the Louisiana Supreme Court with the authority to discipline out-of-state attorneys who engage in unethical practices within the state. It also proposes that the legislature be permitted to establish specialized trial courts with limited jurisdiction.

Amendment 2 focuses on revising tax and financial policies. This includes lowering the maximum income tax rate, increasing deductions for citizens over the age of 65, implementing a government growth limit, adjusting certain constitutional funds, maintaining property tax exemptions, and ensuring a permanent teacher salary increase through surplus funding.

Amendment 3 would allow the Louisiana legislature to decide which felony crimes committed by individuals under 17 years old can be prosecuted in adult court.

Finally, Amendment 4 aims to require that judicial vacancies be filled using the earliest possible election date.

Voters are encouraged to confirm their registration status and determine their voting location ahead of Election Day.
