The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced a shift in traffic on I-12 westbound, set to begin at 5 a.m. on Saturday, February 22. This adjustment is part of the ongoing College Drive Flyover Project construction efforts.

This change marks a significant alteration for drivers on I-12 westbound, who traditionally merge with I-10 westbound traffic from the right side. Under the new configuration, lanes will move to the left before merging, forming the left lanes of I-10 westbound. This modification is intended to be permanent.

On the same day, February 22, crews will temporarily close the I-12 westbound on-ramp at Essen Lane for approximately six to eight weeks. During this period, the right lane approaching Essen will serve as an “exit only” lane for the I-10 eastbound exit ramp. The other two lanes will continue towards the I-10/I-12 merge.

Drivers are advised to take a detour via Essen Lane south to access the I-10 westbound on-ramp during this closure. These changes are necessary for completing new exit ramps at College Drive for both interstates. Once finished, dedicated right lane exits to College Drive will be available.

The DOTD emphasizes patience among drivers adjusting to these changes and urges caution in work zones while following posted speed limits and signs.
