The Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced an extension to the Evangeline Thruway rehabilitation project in Lafayette Parish. Crews have commenced work on the section of La. 182 from the railroad junction to the I-10/I-49 interchange.
The project encompasses various tasks, including concrete pavement patching, asphalt paving, joint sealing, dowel bar retrofit, high-density polyurethane foam application for slab jacking, and installation of handicap ramps. Construction is scheduled during specific hours throughout the week: Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., with continuous work over weekends starting Friday at 8 p.m. until Monday morning at 6 a.m., contingent on weather conditions.
Drivers should anticipate alternating double lane closures necessary for slab jacking and pavement patching operations. There will be a width restriction of 12 feet during working hours, although emergency vehicles will maintain access despite potential delays.
The first phase involved work on U.S. 90 from the railroad junction to East Pinhook Road; the second phase will extend along U.S. 90 from La. 92 (Young Street) to La. 88 (Coteau Road). Completion is projected by late spring 2025.
DOTD encourages motorists' patience and advises caution when driving through construction zones, emphasizing attentiveness to crews and equipment.
