The University of Louisiana Monroe baseball team announced on Apr. 16 that it will host Arkansas State in a three-game series at Lou St. Amant Field, with the first game scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m., followed by games on Saturday and Sunday.
This matchup is significant as it marks the 90th meeting between the two teams, with Arkansas State currently leading the all-time series. The Red Wolves have a record of 46-43 against ULM, although ULM has won its last seven home games against them dating back to 2018, including sweeps in both the 2024 and 2022 seasons.
Arkansas State enters the weekend with an overall record of 22-14 and holds eighth place in the Sun Belt Conference as of Apr. 15. The Red Wolves recently secured a win over No.11 Coastal Carolina and are led offensively by Derek Martinez, who boasts a .344 batting average and ten home runs this season. Ashton Quiller leads his team in hits while Lane Walton has recorded eleven home runs and thirty-seven runs batted in so far this year.
The Warhawks return to Monroe after facing Appalachian State on the road, where they lost two out of three games but managed a comeback victory in game two by scoring six runs late to secure a win. However, pitching challenges have persisted for ULM, which has allowed nine or more runs in each of its last six conference games.
On offense, Davis Mauzy leads ULM with a .362 batting average and fifty-four hits across thirty-seven games played this season. Danye Wray also continues to be productive at bat with eight home runs and twenty-nine RBI. Marcus Aranda stands out as one of the team’s top power hitters with ten home runs—homering in six out of his last eight games—and thirty-nine RBI overall.
Freshmen players have contributed significantly for ULM; Sutton Lewis hit multiple three-run homers during opening weekend play while Wray added three more during another early-season series. These performances highlight strong contributions from younger members of the roster as ULM looks to improve its standing within conference play.
