The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Louisiana collected nearly $1.4 million in criminal and civil actions during Fiscal Year 2025, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Kurt L. Wall. The office reported collections totaling $1,392,488.86, with $1,240,255.48 coming from criminal cases and $152,233.38 from civil cases.

In collaboration with other U.S. Attorney’s Offices and components of the Department of Justice, the Middle District also contributed to additional collections amounting to $2,065,487.31 in joint cases—$11,350 was collected in criminal actions and $2,054,137.31 in civil actions.

U.S. Attorney Wall stated: “Our mission in representing the United States is to hold everyone accountable who violates our laws, whether it is criminal or civil. We will use every tool available to obtain justice. Sometimes that might result in prison, or the enforcement of monetary judgments, or even the execution of asset forfeitures. Criminals and fraudsters can be certain that we will aggressively pursue all available options.”

Among specific recoveries highlighted by the office was a forfeiture case from August 2025 involving $189,490 seized by law enforcement during a traffic stop on Interstate 12 near Millerville Road in Baton Rouge; authorities determined these funds were proceeds from drug trafficking activity and secured their forfeiture through a federal court order.

In another case from May 2024, Adolphus Obioha pled guilty to theft of government funds connected to misuse of Economic Injury Disaster Loan proceeds; he was ordered to pay restitution exceeding $472,000 to the Small Business Administration. During Fiscal Year 2025 alone, the office collected almost $250,000 toward this debt through asset forfeiture and lump-sum payment.

The office noted its responsibility for enforcing collection of debts owed both to the United States and federal crime victims as part of its broader mandate within the Department of Justice framework.

Additionally, asset forfeiture efforts led by the Middle District yielded over $1.9 million in FY 2025; such assets are deposited into a fund supporting victim compensation and law enforcement purposes.
