The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office announced on May 21 that two individuals have been arrested following an investigation into an assault by drive-by shooting.
The arrests are significant as they address concerns about violent crime and firearm offenses in the community. The sheriff’s office is urging anyone with information related to criminal activity to come forward, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in ongoing investigations.
According to the sheriff’s office, Dawson W. Hazelton, age 19 and a resident of Oakdale, was arrested on May 13 and booked into the Evangeline Parish Detention Center. Hazelton faces six counts of principal to assault by drive-by shooting (felony) under Louisiana Revised Statute 14:24 and one count of illegal possession of a handgun (misdemeanor) under Louisiana Revised Statute 14:95.8. His bond has been set at $36,500.
Cameron Runnels, age 17 from Glenmora, was arrested on May 14 and also booked into the Evangeline Parish Detention Center. Runnels is charged with six counts of assault by drive-by shooting (felony) under Louisiana Revised Statute 14:37.1 and one count of illegal possession of a handgun (misdemeanor) under Louisiana Revised Statute 14:95.8. His bond has been set at $30,000.

Any person reporting information will remain anonymous.” The sheriff’s office also reminds that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
