The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced a traffic shift on I-12 westbound, set to commence at 5 a.m. on Saturday, February 22. This change is part of the ongoing College Drive Flyover Project construction efforts.
Under the new configuration, I-12 westbound lanes will move left before merging with I-10 westbound, forming the left lanes of I-10 westbound. “This new traffic pattern will be permanent,” DOTD confirmed.

Additionally, the I-12 westbound on-ramp at Essen Lane will close temporarily for approximately six to eight weeks starting February 22. During this period, drivers can expect the right lane of I-12 westbound approaching Essen to serve as an “exit only” lane for the I-10 eastbound exit ramp.
A suggested detour directs drivers south on Essen Lane to access the I-10 westbound on-ramp. These adjustments are crucial for completing new exit ramps from both interstates to College Drive. Upon completion, dedicated right-lane exits to College Drive will be available from both highways.
DOTD urges drivers to “be patient with fellow motorists who are adjusting to the new traffic patterns.” Caution in work zones and adherence to posted speed limits are also advised.
