The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office announced on April 19 the arrest of Joseph David Lodrigue, a Houma man and active police officer, following an investigation into missing funds from an organization affiliated with the Houma Police Department.

The case is significant as it involves alleged financial misconduct by a law enforcement official, raising concerns about accountability within public service organizations.

According to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, administrative officers discovered discrepancies during a recent audit after a leadership transition. The audit revealed unauthorized withdrawals totaling more than $38,000 from a Chase Bank account linked to the organization. Detectives determined that these funds were transferred to a Zelle account associated with Lodrigue, who had served as President of the organization for two years and Treasurer for seven years prior.

Detectives located Lodrigue at his home and brought him in for questioning. During an interview, authorities said he was cooperative and admitted to making the unauthorized transactions. Investigators also found evidence that some transactions took place while Lodrigue attended a law enforcement conference.

Lodrigue has been charged with Felony Theft, Bank Fraud, and Malfeasance in Office. He is being held at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex without bond until his appearance before a magistrate judge determines further action.

“This case underscores the importance of accountability and integrity, especially among those entrusted to serve and protect,” said Sheriff Tim Soignet. “We remain committed to conducting thorough and impartial investigations, regardless of an individual’s position, to ensure justice is served and public trust is upheld.”

The investigation remains ongoing according to officials. Further details will be released as they become available.
