Republican Congressman Steve Scalise met with former president Donald Trump recently and according to him the only president to be impeached twice says that he still cares very much about America.
House minority whip Steve Scalise met with the former president in Mar-a-Lago on Feb. 16 and said that Donald Trump seemed calmer and “more relaxed” than before when he was still in the White House. A spokesperson for Scalise spoke with The Epoch Times and told the newspaper that the congressman just wanted to touch base with the former president to see how he was doing.
According to Scalise, Trump still showed concern for the country, especially for its direction. But Scalise added that their conversation leaned more toward what Trump was doing at the time and how his family is doing now that they’re out of Washington, D.C.
Scalise’s spokesperson emphasized that the meeting did not have a political agenda and that the congressman simply wanted to get in touch with the former president.
On Feb. 21 it was Donald Trump who reached out to Scalise when the former was going around Florida for his fundraising campaign.
Scalise spoke with ABC’s This Week where he was asked if Trump should be held accountable for the Capitol rioting on Jan. 6. The congressman said that Trump already denounced the breach and he went further to say that if accountability is what everyone wants then the Democrats should also be held accountable for allegedly inciting the riots against police officers during the protests that occurred last summer.
