The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office announced on May 13 that deputies made two separate drug-related arrests earlier this month following traffic stops in Destrehan and Ama.
The information is important for the local community as it highlights ongoing law enforcement efforts to address drug possession and related offenses in the area.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Niara Simmons, a 21-year-old female, was arrested on May 8 at LA 48 and Campus Drive in Destrehan. Deputies reported detecting the odor of marijuana during a traffic stop involving Simmons. A search of her vehicle led to the discovery of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Simmons was taken into custody and transported to NCCC for booking on charges including battery of a dating partner, possession of marijuana, and possession or distribution of drug paraphernalia.
In a separate incident on May 6 at LA 18 and Michael Street in Ama, deputies arrested Rommell Hardy, a 20-year-old male. The Sheriff’s Office said that after stopping Hardy’s vehicle, deputies detected the smell of marijuana. During their investigation, they observed Hardy attempting to discard marijuana by reaching into his pants. A subsequent search uncovered additional marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. Hardy was booked at NCCC on charges including possession or distribution of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, possession of tobacco/vape products under age 21, obstruction of justice, operating with a suspended license, and failure to display a license plate.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about these incidents to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-877-903-STOP. Callers do not have to provide their names or testify in court and may be eligible for rewards up to $2,500.
