The Southern Jaguars men’s baseball team announced on May 19 that it will enter the postseason as the No. 2 seed, following a run of 15 straight conference wins and a 16-2 record in league play.
This development highlights the team’s momentum heading into tournament play, with players and coaches expressing confidence about their chances. The Jaguars have not lost a conference game since April 4, which has helped them secure their high seeding.
Southern’s offense has been productive throughout the season, posting a .321 batting average in conference games and scoring 245 runs against league opponents. In May alone, the team hit .376 with a slugging percentage of .537. Key contributors include KJ White Jr., who is hitting .418 with 71 hits and 28 stolen bases; Ryan Hunter with 63 hits and 36 RBIs; Jaylon Lucky batting .336 with sixteen doubles; and Jacoby Radcliffe adding four home runs along with thirty-five stolen bases.
Head coach Chris Crenshaw brings postseason experience to the squad, having previously led Southern to a tournament championship in 2021 and another title game appearance in 2022. On pitching, Bobby Spencer recorded seventy-one strikeouts and seven wins this season while Myles Dismute added seven victories of his own. Caleb Ellis and Genesis Prosper have contributed eight saves out of the bullpen.
The Jaguars’ aggressive base running has resulted in one hundred thirty-four stolen bases for the year. With improved defense late in the season, Southern enters tournament play at peak form.
Tournament action begins Wednesday, May 20, when Southern faces Jackson State at three p.m., Central Standard Time.
