The Shreveport Police Department announced on April 21 that it is seeking the public’s assistance to identify a suspect involved in a counterfeit currency incident at a local store.

The department said the case concerns an unidentified Black male who entered the Family Dollar at 9034 Mansfield Road on March 16, 2026, around 5:28 PM. The man conducted a transaction to load $500 onto a prepaid card using cash. Later, it was discovered that $200 of this amount—ten $20 bills—were counterfeit.

According to investigators, five of the fake bills had identical serial numbers while the other five shared another matching serial number. Authorities also noted that the bills lacked standard security features such as color-shifting ink and proper texture. The appearance of these bills did not match legitimate U.S. currency and could reasonably be identified as counterfeit.

Detectives are actively investigating and working to identify the individual responsible for passing the counterfeit money. They urge anyone who recognizes this suspect or has information about this incident to contact the Shreveport Police Department at 318-673-7300 or submit tips anonymously through Caddo Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.

Police say that community assistance could help prevent further incidents involving counterfeit currency.
