The Shreveport Police Department announced on April 21 that it is investigating a fatal incident involving a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle on Interstate 20 westbound at the Interstate 49 north interchange. The event occurred in the early morning hours of April 18, when police received several calls about a person in the roadway.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about pedestrian safety on high-speed roadways, where foot traffic is strictly prohibited due to significant risks.
According to the department, officers arrived at approximately 1:00 a.m. and found an unresponsive male identified as Ahmad King. Officers immediately began life-saving measures, including sternum rubs and CPR, until emergency medical personnel arrived. King was transported by the Shreveport Fire Department to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport, where he was pronounced deceased.
Witnesses told police that King had been running back and forth across the interstate while vehicles were approaching. They reported that he narrowly avoided being hit by an 18-wheeler before being struck by a black passenger vehicle. The driver of that vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
The Crash Investigation Unit responded to document and mark the scene before clearing it. The investigation remains active as authorities continue their review of what happened.
A safety reminder from police emphasized: “Pedestrians are strictly prohibited from being on the interstate. These roadways are designed for high-speed vehicle traffic, and entering them on foot is extremely dangerous and often fatal.”
