U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) has released a summary of his major achievements for Louisiana in 2025. The list highlights legislative efforts on tax reform, public health, infrastructure investment, and immigration.

Among the key measures, Cassidy pointed to the passage of the Working Families Tax Cuts bill, which eliminates taxes on tips, Social Security payments, and overtime pay. He also secured over $669 million in retroactive payments for Louisiana residents through the Social Security Fairness Act. This law repealed both the Windfall Elimination Program (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO).

In response to the ongoing fentanyl crisis, Cassidy sponsored legislation such as the HALT Fentanyl Act targeting drug dealers and the SUPPORT Act aimed at improving treatment and recovery services.

Infrastructure was another focus area. Cassidy reported that more than $1.6 billion from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act was allocated to improve roads, bridges, airports, and broadband access across Louisiana. He continues to advocate for a long-term extension of the National Flood Insurance Program.

Cassidy also played a role in introducing and passing the Laken Riley Act. This legislation requires detention of undocumented immigrants who commit theft or burglary.

“We had several major wins this year, including tax cuts for working families, cracking down on fentanyl dealers, and securing billions for Louisiana,” said Dr. Cassidy. “In 2026, I’ll keep working with my Republican colleagues to lower costs for families, make our communities safer, and secure American energy independence – starting right here in our state.”

As Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, Cassidy led 36 hearings advancing what he described as a pro-patient agenda aligned with President Trump’s priorities. The committee voted to advance 32 nominees from President Trump; all were confirmed by the Senate.

Cassidy introduced bills focused on making education more accessible and affordable while addressing student debt issues. His Educational Choice for Children Act marked what he called “the first federal school choice legislation in American history.”

As HELP Committee chair—and as a physician—Cassidy emphasized efforts to reduce health care costs by supporting policies intended to give patients greater control over their care rather than insurance companies.
