LEONARDO PARAMO-BARBAS, a 29-year-old Nicaraguan national, was sentenced on December 4, 2025, for misusing a social security number to gain employment. The sentencing took place before United States District Judge Sarah S. Vance in New Orleans after Paramo-Barbas pleaded guilty to violating Title 42, United States Code, Section 408(a)(7)(B).

According to the indictment, Paramo-Barbas falsely claimed that a Social Security Number had been assigned to him with the intent of obtaining and keeping employment on July 20, 2022.

Paramo-Barbas received a sentence of time served and was ordered to pay a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

This prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America. The initiative aims to use the Department of Justice’s resources to address illegal immigration, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime.

Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson stated his appreciation for the work done by ICE Enforcement Removal Office and Homeland Security Investigations. “This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mary Katherine Kaufman of the General Crimes Unit,” Simpson said.
