NFIB State Director Leah Long has issued a statement following Governor Jeff Landry’s recent news conference addressing fiscal responsibility in Louisiana’s state government.

“Small business owners understand the need to live within their means and stick to a budget, and they appreciate Governor Landry’s commitment to running state government the same way. We appreciate the work the governor has done to make Louisiana more fiscally responsible, and we look forward to working with him and legislative leaders this spring on a plan to reduce or, ideally, eliminate Louisiana’s personal income tax.”

Long explained that many small businesses in Louisiana operate as pass-through entities. This structure means business revenues are taxed at the owner’s individual rate rather than at a corporate level.

“Reducing or eliminating the income tax would help offset the rising cost of doing business and help small businesses thrive, create jobs, and support their communities,” she said.
