New Orleans postal worker receives probation for mail destruction

PJ Whitaker, a 36-year-old resident of New Orleans, has been sentenced to one year of probation for destroying mail. The sentencing took place on January 7, 2026, with U.S. District Court Judge Greg G. Guidry presiding.

Whitaker had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of destruction of mail under Title 18, United States Code, Section 1703. According to court documents, Whitaker was employed by the Postal Service when he unlawfully opened packages that were meant to be delivered by mail while working on a Small Parcel and Bundle Sorter.

The United States Postal Service Office of the Inspector General conducted the investigation into Whitaker’s actions. Assistant United States Attorney Christine Calogero from the General Crimes Unit led the prosecution.
