A New Orleans woman has pleaded guilty to theft of mail by a postal employee. Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced that Kanesha Florence, 28, entered her plea on August 5, 2025.
According to court records, Florence unlawfully stole and removed a greeting card containing an Amazon gift card on February 6, 2023. The item was in her possession and was intended to be delivered by mail.
Florence could face up to five years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, up to three years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100. Sentencing is scheduled for November 4, 2025 before Chief United States District Judge Wendy B. Vitter.
The United States Postal Service – Office of the Inspector General and the United States Postal Inspection Service investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorney Paul J. Hubbell from the General Crimes Unit is prosecuting.
