A New Orleans man has pleaded guilty to attempting to send obscene material to a minor, according to an announcement from Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson. Mark Brooks, also known as “Baby Nu,” age 35, entered his plea before United States District Judge Barry W. Ashe.
Court documents show that on May 1, 2025, Brooks contacted an FBI undercover employee who was posing as a fifteen-year-old girl named “Ava.” After being told the supposed age of “Ava,” Brooks engaged in sexually explicit conversations and sent multiple explicit videos, including some filmed at his workplace and inside residential rooms. Brooks also discussed meeting in person for sexual activity.
On May 13, 2025, Brooks suggested meeting “Ava” at a restaurant near his home before returning to his residence for sexual contact. Law enforcement arrested him as he walked from his home toward the restaurant.
Brooks faces up to ten years in prison, three years of supervised release, a fine of up to $250,000, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee. He may also be required to register as a sex offender. Sentencing is set for February 12, 2026.
The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse by coordinating federal, state, and local resources.
Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Louisiana State Police for their work on the case. Assistant United States Attorney Jordan Ginsberg is leading the prosecution.
