JEREMIAH MILLS, 28, of New Orleans, was indicted on August 28, 2025, on four federal charges related to two incidents at a gas station in the city. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson.
According to the indictment, MILLS is charged with Hobbs Act Robbery and Attempted Hobbs Act Robbery for incidents that occurred on July 17 and July 20, 2025, respectively. The first incident involved an armed robbery at a gas station located in the 2700 block of S. Claiborne Avenue in New Orleans. During this event, MILLS allegedly used and discharged a firearm. Three days later, he reportedly attempted to rob the same location.
The indictment also includes charges of Discharging a Firearm During and in Relation to a Crime of Violence and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
If convicted on all counts, MILLS faces significant penalties: up to 20 years imprisonment for each Hobbs Act Robbery charge; a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years up to life imprisonment for discharging a firearm during a crime of violence; and up to 15 years imprisonment for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Each count carries potential fines up to $250,000 and periods of supervised release ranging from three to five years. A $100 mandatory special assessment fee applies to each count.
Acting United States Attorney Simpson stated: “the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.”
The case is part of Operation Take Back America, which coordinates resources from federal initiatives such as the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) and Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) to address violent crime nationwide.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Violent Crime Task Force. Assistant United States Attorney Troy L. Bell is prosecuting the case.
