The Morgan City Police Department has announced the arrest of a local man, who has been charged with carnal knowledge of a juvenile.
According to the department, the arrest of 27-year-old Gerson Petronila Perez-Cordona followed an investigation initiated in December 2020. This investigation began after reports surfaced that a juvenile victim had allegedly become pregnant by the suspect. Investigators determined that the two were believed to have engaged in sexual activity on two occasions. A warrant for Perez-Cordona’s arrest was issued after authorities were initially unable to locate him.
Perez-Cordona was located on November 21, 2025, by the Department of Homeland Security and subsequently booked on the outstanding warrant. He remains in custody awaiting court proceedings and is being held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). According to ICE data, over 23,000 immigration detainers were issued nationwide in 2024 related to criminal arrests.
Louisiana state law classifies Carnal Knowledge of a Juvenile as a felony, with penalties that can include up to 10 years in prison and mandatory sex offender registration. The state reported 1,276 arrests for sex crimes involving minors in 2024, marking a 7% increase from the previous year.
