Mexican national sentenced to prison for illegal re-entry in Louisiana

LUIS A. GAMA, a 38-year-old Mexican national, was sentenced on July 23, 2025, for illegally re-entering the United States after being previously deported. According to court documents, GAMA was found in Tangipahoa Parish in April 2025 and had been deported to Mexico in September 2019.

United States District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown sentenced GAMA to twelve months of imprisonment and one year of supervised release.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, which uses resources from the Department of Justice to address illegal immigration and related criminal activity. The initiative brings together efforts from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson stated: “Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).”

Simpson also praised Immigration and Customs Enforcement for its role in investigating the case. Assistant United States Attorney Paul J. Hubbell of the General Crimes Unit prosecuted the matter.
