A Mexican national, Jose Cabrera-Molina, 33, has been charged with illegal reentry after deportation, according to an announcement from United States Attorney David I. Courcelle. The charge was filed on December 23, 2025.
Court documents state that Cabrera-Molina was found in Orleans Parish on December 12, 2025. Immigration records show he had previously been removed from the United States on December 16, 2013 and did not have legal authorization to return.
If convicted under Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a), Cabrera-Molina could face up to two years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, up to one year of supervised release, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.
U.S. Attorney Courcelle emphasized: “A bill of information is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.”
The case is part of Operation Take Back America. According to the Department of Justice’s description of this initiative, it coordinates resources across federal agencies with goals including combating illegal immigration and dismantling criminal organizations through programs such as the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
Courcelle commended U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for their roles in the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Spiro G. Latsis is leading the prosecution.
