Louisiana Tech advanced to the semifinals of the Conference USA Women’s Tennis Championship after defeating Sam Houston 4-0 on Apr. 16 at the Adams Tennis Complex in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
The win allows Louisiana Tech, seeded first in the tournament, to continue its postseason run and highlights a strong season for the team. The Bulldogs have now reached at least the semifinals in each of the last four tournaments.
Louisiana Tech started by winning doubles matches on courts one and three, securing an early lead. In singles play, straight-set victories from Isabella Walker, Zoie Epps, and Maria Tsironi completed the shutout against ninth-seeded Sam Houston. Head coach Amy Sargeant said, “I thought today we had a good start in doubles. We came out very decisive and aggressive. We had good energy from start to finish. That set the tone early going into singles where we went up quick on three courts with 6-0 sets. From there, it was just a matter of closing it out. Excited about our opportunity to tomorrow.”
With this result, Louisiana Tech leads its all-time series against Sam Houston 15-12 and has won five consecutive matches over them. The Bulldogs improved their record at Conference USA tournaments to 7-11 overall and tied for fifth most wins in program history with their seventeenth victory this season.
The team also saw several individual achievements: Epps secured her fourteenth straight dual singles win; Walker extended her streak at No. 6 position; Tsironi clinched her third match-winning point of spring; while Sargeant’s coaching record improved to 51-21.
Looking ahead, Louisiana Tech will face fourth-seeded Delaware in Friday’s semifinal round.
