Small business optimism in Louisiana is showing signs of improvement, but local entrepreneurs still face significant hurdles, according to Leah Long, State Director of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Louisiana.
“Our small business members are beginning the year with a greater sense of optimism, but challenges remain,” Long said. “Worker shortages, supply chain issues and the need for meaningful tax relief are making it harder for many small businesses to grow and create jobs.”
The most recent NFIB Small Business Economic Trends (SBET) report indicates that the national Small Business Optimism Index increased by 0.5 points in December, reaching 99.5. This figure remains above the index’s 52-year average of 98. The report notes that out of ten components measured, two improved, three declined, and five were unchanged. The increase was mainly due to more owners expecting better business conditions.
Nationally, uncertainty among small business owners has lessened. The NFIB Uncertainty Index dropped by seven points from November to 84—its lowest point since June 2024.
