The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is making progress on a $78 million project to mill and overlay a 37.22-mile stretch of Interstate 10 in the Acadiana Region. The work spans from the Jefferson Davis/Acadia Parish Line to I-49 in Lafayette Parish.
Gilchrist Construction, the contractor, has finished installing wearing asphalt on the mainline of I-10. Currently, crews are focusing on guardrail aprons and installing guardrails on the westbound outside lane between Exit 92 (Mire/Duson) and Exit 80 (Eunice/Crowley). After completing this phase for the westbound section, work will shift to the eastbound side for similar guardrail installations.
In future stages of construction, an open-graded friction course (OGFC) will be applied as a final layer throughout the entire project area. OGFC is composed of an asphalt binder mixed with open-graded aggregate, which helps improve safety during wet weather conditions.
The project’s estimated completion date is fall 2025.
