The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced a $9.6 million project aimed at repairing a section of US 171, also known as Hearne Avenue, in Shreveport. The project is set to begin on October 3, 2025.

According to DOTD, the work will include full-depth patching to repair the roadway base at specific locations, milling to remove old asphalt, and new asphalt paving over a stretch of 4.6 miles from LA 3132 to US 80 (Greenwood Road). Additional tasks involve drainage improvements and the installation of permanent signage and road striping.

To accommodate construction activities safely and efficiently, alternating lane closures will be implemented. DOTD advises motorists to anticipate possible delays during peak travel times. Nearly 20,000 vehicles use this section of Hearne Avenue daily, making it an important connector between highways such as I-20 and LA 3132.

The entire project is expected to conclude by late spring 2026. However, completion depends on weather conditions and other factors that could affect construction timelines.

DOTD urges drivers to proceed with caution through the work zone: “Motorists are strongly urged to drive carefully through the work zone, keeping an eye out for crews and equipment, and to never drive while distracted or impaired.”

Additional updates about the project will be provided through the MyDOTD notification system as construction continues. Residents can sign up for alerts online.

DOTD reminds all area residents: “Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.”
