Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana met with members of the Louisiana National Guard in Washington, D.C., after a video showed them being verbally harassed by a protester. The incident occurred on December 10 near Union Station, where an activist insulted five Guardsmen and a bystander. The protester used strong language, including calling one Guardsman “a piece of f***ing sh*t” and falsely stating he “never did a damn thing for the country.”
The National Guard members remained calm during the encounter. Senator Kennedy addressed the situation on social media the following day, writing, “In real America, we don’t tolerate crazed nutjobs who treat our men and women in uniform like garbage . . . They’re always welcome to warm up and enjoy a moment of peace and quiet in my office.”
Kennedy later met with the Guardsmen at his office. He stated, “These brave Louisiana National Guard members deserve our thanks and support—not abuse from whack jobs. I was honored to speak to them at my office today. They make Louisiana proud.” Kennedy also thanked them for their service and their role in keeping Washington, D.C., safe.
