Governor Jeff Landry has appointed Julie Emerson as his new Chief of Staff, succeeding Kyle Ruckert. Emerson will begin her role next week.
“Julie Emerson is a proven leader with a deep understanding of Louisiana’s people, our State legislature, and the work that needs to be done to move Louisiana forward,” said Governor Landry. “Her experience and commitment to conservative reform makes her the perfect person to help lead this administration as we continue fighting for a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Louisiana.”
Emerson commented on her appointment: “The last two years have produced some of the boldest reforms Louisiana has ever seen—reforms that have led us to climb in education rankings, business friendliness, and economic growth. I’m honored to have been a part of many of these reforms as a legislator, and I look forward to continuing to grow Louisiana as Governor Landry’s Chief of Staff.”
Emerson is originally from Homer, Louisiana and grew up in Carencro. She was first elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives in 2015 and served three terms. During her tenure, she became the youngest Republican woman elected to the Legislature and most recently chaired the House Committee on Ways & Means—the first woman in state history to chair a finance committee. Emerson is recognized for advocating fiscally responsible budgeting, lower taxes, protection of innocent life, and defense of Second Amendment rights.
Governor Landry’s administration has implemented policies aimed at promoting economic growth and public safety throughout Louisiana according to the official website. These efforts include securing over $50 billion in investments through tax cuts and economic initiatives as reported by state sources. Additionally, recent education reforms under his leadership have resulted in improved student testing scores statewide according to government data.
Landry serves as governor within the broader structure of state government as outlined by official information, with operations impacting regions across Louisiana from New Orleans to Baton Rouge per government reports.
