Honduran national sentenced to prison for illegal reentry in Louisiana

Wilmer Antonio Garcia-Aquino, a 43-year-old citizen of Honduras, has been sentenced for illegal reentry into the United States. The sentencing took place on August 21, 2025, in New Orleans, Louisiana.

U.S. District Judge Lance M. Africk imposed a sentence of three months imprisonment on Garcia-Aquino. Following his release from prison, he will serve three years of supervised release and must pay a mandatory $100 special assessment fee. Upon completion of his prison term, Garcia-Aquino will be transferred to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for removal proceedings under the Immigration and Nationality Act.

Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson acknowledged the efforts of the United States Bureau of Customs and Border Protection in investigating the case.

“Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson praised the work of the United States Bureau of Customs and Border Protection investigating this matter.” Assistant United States Attorney Irene González from the General Crimes Unit handled the prosecution.
