WALTER OMAR CASCO-LOPEZ, a 36-year-old Honduran national, was sentenced on February 4, 2026, by United States District Judge Greg Gerard Guidry for illegally reentering the United States after being deported. The sentencing took place in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Court documents state that CASCO-LOPEZ reentered the country unlawfully following his previous deportation on October 12, 2011. He received a sentence of twenty-one months in prison and one year of supervised release. In addition, he must pay a $100 mandatory special assessment fee. After serving his prison term, CASCO-LOPEZ will be transferred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for deportation back to Honduras.
The prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, which is an initiative led by the Department of Justice aimed at deterring illegal immigration and targeting transnational criminal organizations. The operation coordinates with the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) to strengthen enforcement efforts.
U.S. Attorney David I. Courcelle commented on the investigation: “U.S. Attorney Courcelle praised the work of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Customs Enforcement Border Protection in investigating this matter.” Assistant United States Attorney Spiro G.
